The two consecutive terrorist attacks at mosques in Christchurch made news when they occurred on 15 March 2019. Killing 50 innocents and injuring 50 more, the shooting has been described as “one of New Zealand’s darkest days”.
Support and sympathy have poured in from all over the world to support the massacre’s victims and families. Christchurch and its people have stayed strong despite the tragedy, staying true to the beloved New Zealander Māori phrase, Kia kaha.
Real estate agents in Australia and New Zealand have also banded together to give support during this trying time, culminating in a conference, aptly labelled RISE2019, that will feature some of real estate’s most notable leaders.
The guest speakers include Australian author Peter Fitzsimons, Cunninghams Real Estate Director Georgi Bates, Chris Hanley of First National Byron Bay, Harcourt’s Dane Atherton, and many more.
Survivor Farid Ahmed, who lost his wife in the shooting, will also make an appearance. Farid has been featured several times for saying that he has no hate for the man who took his wife’s life, citing instead that he will pray for the gunman.
All of the speakers are volunteers and they have agreed to collaborate and share their insights for the biggest impact and contribution possible in aiding the victims of the tragedy. The events and speakers are completely self-funded. All proceeds, ticket costs, and further donations will go directly to the RISE2019 Event Foundation.
RISE will be held Thursday, 2 May 2019, at the Addington Raceway and Event Centre. The venue is only 20 minutes away from Christchurch Airport.
For attendees who wish to stay overnight, the conference also has a hotel partner, Rydges Latimer, which overlooks the scenic Latimer Square. The hotel is a 10-minute drive away from the conference venue and takes a 20-minute drive from the airport.
But physically attending the conference isn’t the only way people can help. Donations can also be made at their website riseconference.com.au. At the time of writing over $100,000 AUD have been raised, but it’s not too late to pitch in since donations will be open until the event ends!
