Simon Cashman spent almost 20 years in the film and television industry before he transitioned to Real Estate. Even then, he knew the importance of video as educational tools.
Videos help us retain and absorb more information than books because they stimulate more senses: sight and hearing. Books just stimulate sight (or sometimes not even that, in the case of dry and heavy textbooks). We can all get lost in the powerful words and insights of a good book, but it can’t be denied that videos are easier and faster to learn from.
It is the king of communication. Streaming media has become the norm – a mainstay in our lives. Luckily, in today’s day and age, we have plenty of places to watch video: Netflix, Stan, Amazon Prime, Foxtel, Now, etc. They all offer entertaining shows, including well-produced property shows that cater to consumers. These are great to watch when we’re relaxing with friends and family, but it isn’t the best option for our work and education.
Changes in lifestyle and the lack of time have brought about changes in the way we watch and the time we spend doing so. We’re always on the go.
So, we need to take advantage of the available technology and time… to watch something. We can absorb information so much faster through video than we can form concepts in our heads from the words on a page. Take advantage of your downtime – when you’re waiting in line, catching a plane, or sitting in public transportation– to expand your knowledge. These days, more people watch content rather than read it.
But which videos do you watch?
Do you scour YouTube or search Google for the best property-related content? Yes, you can definitely do that, but it would take so much time to sift through fake links, fake news, and low quality information to get to the gems on the web.
That’s why we thought that property-related content should have its own central location. A channel that can be easily found and personalized. How cool would “Live or on Demand” be, right?
And that is the true power of PropertyTV. A one “go-to” place for the best information and insights from real estate’s leaders and all things to do with property. It can also be accessed for everyone to enjoy on the run.
The team at Property TV think as I do and that’s why we’re working to make it the norm for real estate professionals everywhere.
Simon is the Head of Industry Relations at Switch Media – the company behind the development of PropertyTV or as it’s becoming known – pTV.
