Rip Curl Founder Buys $22m Byron Bay Home

Earlier this year, Michael Coombs of LJ Hooker Avnu, sold Geoff Morgan's home in Byron Bay for $22 million. It has now been revealed who bought it, none other than Rip Curl Founder, Brian Singer.

Singer founded Rip Curl with Doug Warbrick in 1969 in renown surf haven, Torquay, Victoria. Bells Beach, of course, the legendary surf beach hosting the annual Rip Curl Pro. It is no surprise that one of its founders would find their way to the other renown Australian surf town, Byron Bay.

The sale joins a long list of celebrity, royalty and entrepreneur purchases in the area. Prices that were otherwise reserved for Sydney Harbourside mansions, the $22million sale at Wategos Beach in Byron Bay is further evidence of Byron's international appeal.

The home that belonged to the Morgan family since 1994, where it was purchased for $1.24million, setting a record at that time. Reimagined by architect Timothy Moon, the dwelling has five bedrooms, a swimming pool and exploiting its expansive ocean view.

Jennifer Berman, one of the originals of Bravo TV's Million Dollar Listing and current star of CNBC's Listing Impossible, spoke with Property TV on the max exodus of US celebrities to Australia. "We are not filming here anymore, I'm in Beverly Hills and we are shut down again," Berman told Chris Gray host of Gray's Property Anatomy on Property TV.

Byron is not the only seaside town celebrities are flocking to. Noosa, on Queensland's spectacular coastline, is another destination that local and international buyers are buying up large. Kirstie Klein-Hunter, buyers agent in Noosa, told Property TV "I have recently bought a stunning property for clients right on Sunshine Beach". And the property is stunning, the ultimate beach house with 4 bedrooms, architecturally designed appeal and views of the Coral Sea.

There is little doubt of the interest in Australia and it's stunning coastline. Be it pandemic driven, political or the appeal to live abroad, Australia is certainly accepting its newest residents with open arms.

Watch the full episode featuring Jennifer Berman, Braden Walters and Kirstie Klein-Hunter.
